Summer Update

I have missed a whole month of blogging! This is starting to be like my old diary… we all know how THOSE turned out.

Having failed to obtain a summer job (#successstory), I have attempted to find other ways to occupy my time. For the first year in a while, my family has no trips planned for the summer. Generally we go camping somewhere relatively nearby, but this year we’ve chosen instead to stay at home and work on finishing the basement. That leaves unemployed, vacation-less, homework-less me with an awful lot of free time.

1. Sometimes I practice.

It does happen, I promise! I’m working on some etudes and two larger pieces of rep that are frankly a little frightening and occasionally discouraging. But they’re coming along pretty well, I suppose… As well as I could hope for, anyways.

2. Sometimes I make things.

Sometimes it’s art of sorts, sometimes it’s crafts, sometimes it’s food. A couple nights ago I suddenly got really excited about decorating my dorm again, which launched a short spell of dorm crafts.

The jar also holds an electric tealight and was created during a craft day of sorts with a couple of good friends of mine. I’m pretty proud of everything I’ve made so far and can’t wait to go dorm shopping~

3. On rare occasions, I go places.

I started volunteering at a local no-kill animal shelter again and have enjoyed that very much, especially since I get to see these cuties on a weekly basis:

I got to see Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes for free, too, which was pretty awesome!!

I also had a surprise birthday party thrown for me. It was a little awkward, because it was also for a close friend of mine, and I knew it was for her. Consequently, I attempted to get in on the planning (for my own surprise party) and was blocked from it, which was weird and a little confusing. It wasn’t til an awkward surprise greeting that I realized what had happened. Also, it happened about a month before my actual birthday. So.

I’ve even taken a couple day trips that have been very lovely. A friend of mine and I took a spontaneous road trip to Blue Ridge one day.

And for Father’s Day, my family took a day trip to Amicalola Falls and hiked up to the top.

Otherwise, I’ve mostly spent my days at home on the Internet and/or reading A Song of Ice and Fire (otherwise known as the Game of Thrones series). It’s very good. It’s also very sad. And painful. I’m on the 4th book now and it has not gotten any easier when ALL THE CHARACTERS YOU LOVE DIE.

I still have about a month of summer left, so who knows what other adventures it shall bring! I’ll try to update a little more often as well and keep on top of things. :)
